Born in Fjerritslev, Denmark in 1897, Thomas Graae started producing paintings from a young age. Taking inspiration from artists such as Henrik Jespersen, Hans Agersnap and Knud Larsen, Graae is known for his atmospheric landscape scenes. While Denmark remained his home, Graae spent long periods in Italy, exhibiting his work there as well as in Germany.

In this painting, the brightly lit scene captures what we sense is a warm, tranquil day in a rural location. Pale, delicate yellows emphasise the brilliance of the daylight, while the contrasting textural browns create a sense of movement. The compositional structure bears typical characteristics of work by Graae. As with this work, his paintings would often feature a distinctive, clear horizon with greater space devoted to a large open sky, while carefully placed fields and structures guide the eye around the canvas.

    Large item deliveries outside of our local area but within Greater London are charged at a flat rate of £36.

    Mainland UK large item deliveries are priced at £58.*

    *Please note! Our delivery costs include a one-person delivery service with delivery to the ground floor only. If you are unable to assist with unloading or require your purchase to be carried up any flights of stairs there will be an extra cost. Please be sure to inform us at checkout of any special circumstances.

    Returns

    For items purchased over the phone or online we do offer the standard 14 day cooling off period whereby the customer is entitled to a full refund (excluding shipping charges), no questions asked. A 10% restocking fee may be applied to furniture returns at our discretion.

    We do not offer refunds or returns on publications or items bought in person in store unless the goods in question are proven faulty/unfit for purpose.
