Born in Fjerritslev, Denmark in 1897, Thomas Graae started producing paintings from a young age. Taking inspiration from artists such as Henrik Jespersen, Hans Agersnap and Knud Larsen, Graae is known for his atmospheric landscape scenes. While Denmark remained his home, Graae spent long periods in Italy, exhibiting his work there as well as in Germany.

In this oil on canvas, heavy skies shroud a quiet rural scene. We see the artist’s skill for capturing the light and atmospheric conditions found in the natural world. It is clear that Graae felt a respect for the majesty of nature, and here he has invited us to observe the turbulence, power and beauty of a stormy day. The composition is typical of work by Graae, where the artist would often punctuate soft, textural layers of paint with clearly defined lines and structures.

    Large item deliveries outside of our local area but within Greater London are charged at a flat rate of £36.

    Mainland UK large item deliveries are priced at £58.*

    *Please note! Our delivery costs include a one-person delivery service with delivery to the ground floor only. If you are unable to assist with unloading or require your purchase to be carried up any flights of stairs there will be an extra cost. Please be sure to inform us at checkout of any special circumstances.

    Returns

    For items purchased over the phone or online we do offer the standard 14 day cooling off period whereby the customer is entitled to a full refund (excluding shipping charges), no questions asked. A 10% restocking fee may be applied to furniture returns at our discretion.

    We do not offer refunds or returns on publications or items bought in person in store unless the goods in question are proven faulty/unfit for purpose.
