Although the back framing of this painting bears the name Henning Morgensten, a Danish poet, we believe that this piece has been misattributed and that it is actually a work by Harald Markson based on the similarity of the signature in the bottom right corner to Markson’s elsewhere. Markson was in fact a Swedish painter who was born in Uppsala in 1909, where his work continues to be held in regional galleries today. This painting was produced in 1962, somewhat towards the end of Markson’s career, which was largely characterised by still life paintings and landscapes but which equally use similar contours and textures seen here.

This abstracted painting is made up of a cluster of circles intertwined with, and layered on top of, each other. The colour palette – a variation of grey, steely tones – uses light and dark shades to create distinction between the shapes whilst simultaneously making it hard to disentangle the forms from one another. It has a mechanistic appeal to it, using the abstract style to give the impression of cogs moving about one another in a sort of tangled harmony.

    Mainland UK large item deliveries are priced at £58.*

If you are unable to assist with unloading or require your purchase to be carried up any flights of stairs there will be an extra cost.     Returns

    For items purchased over the phone or online we do offer the standard 14 day cooling off period whereby the customer is entitled to a full refund (excluding shipping charges), no questions asked. A 10% restocking fee may be applied to furniture returns at our discretion.

    We do not offer refunds or returns on publications or items bought in person in store unless the goods in question are proven faulty/unfit for purpose.
