Erik Gruno (1916-2000) studied painting at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts and made his artistic debut at the annual Artists' Autumn Exhibition in 1943. As well as growing his career as an artist, he was head of the special school Søgårdsskolen, where he committed himself to working with children with learning difficulties to give them the opportunity to express their creativity and imagination.

The combination of vibrant planes of colour and the minimalistic approach to composition can be seen in several works by the artist. In this painting, vertical and horizontal lines connect the upper and lower margins of the painting, uniting the fields of colour. The combination of rich ochre hues convey a sense of warmth, optimism and joy, naturally drawing us closer to the painting to observe the canvas more closely. Upon closer viewing, traces of brush marks and layering show a loose and free application of paint that contrasts with the overall clearly defined structure.

    Large item deliveries below £1,000 and outside of our local area but within Greater London are charged at a flat rate of £36. Mainland UK large item deliveries are priced at £58.*

    Large item orders over £1,000 are shipped free of charge within London and the UK mainland.*

    *Please note! Our delivery costs include a one-person delivery service with delivery to the ground floor only. If you are unable to assist with unloading or require your purchase to be carried up any flights of stairs there will be an extra cost. Please be sure to inform us at checkout of any special circumstances.

    Returns

    For items purchased over the phone or online we do offer the standard 14 day cooling off period whereby the customer is entitled to a full refund (excluding shipping charges), no questions asked. A 10% restocking fee may be applied to furniture returns at our discretion.

    We do not offer refunds or returns on publications or items bought in person in store unless the goods in question are proven faulty/unfit for purpose.
