Karin Tholstrup (1924-2019) was a Danish painter, but travelled extensively throughout her life. She studied at the Academy of Arts in Copenhagen before taking up positions working in drawing studios in the city. She began by working as an architect before becoming a painter. She participated in a number of exhibitions, particularly in the 1970s and 80s which constitute her most prolific period of artistic output, including exhibitions showcasing women’s art.

In her works, oranges and yellows often take centre stage. Soft perspectives often feature women and scenes of domestic life. This piece demonstrates both of these elements: ceramic ware is placed against a background of dreamlike, hazy tones. Defined but also expressive, Tholstrup plays here with the still-life format, bringing together her established colour palette with generic subject matter.

Greater London/UK Bulky Item Delivery Guidelines
Large item deliveries outside of our local area but within Greater London are charged at a flat rate of £36.

Mainland UK large item deliveries are priced at £58.*

*Please note! Our delivery costs include a one-person delivery service with delivery to the ground floor only. If you are unable to assist with unloading or require your purchase to be carried up any flights of stairs there will be an extra cost. Please be sure to inform us at checkout of any special circumstances.

Returns

For items purchased over the phone or online we do offer the standard 14 day cooling off period whereby the customer is entitled to a full refund (excluding shipping charges), no questions asked. A 10% restocking fee may be applied to furniture returns at our discretion.

We do not offer refunds or returns on publications or items bought in person in store unless the goods in question are proven faulty/unfit for purpose.

This does not affect your statutory rights.
